From a young age, I knew that I wanted to be an artist. At just nine years old, I began studying oil painting. I continued to pursue my passion by attending an art school for high school and obtaining a Fine Arts Degree from the University of British Columbia. However, like many artists, I allowed the opinions of others to steer me away from my true calling, and I found myself in the world of business.
Despite my professional detour, I continued to travel the world throughout my twenties and thirties, always returning to British Columbia to live between adventures. Almost two decades ago, when I first visited Shawnigan Lake, I knew that it was the place I wanted to call home. I find solace anywhere in BC but especially Vancouver Island.
For the past nine years, I have been fully immersed in the community of Shawnigan Lake, and it has been a constant source of inspiration for my art. From the people to the forests, lakes, mountains, and seascapes of Vancouver Island and surrounding coastal communities, I am never short on subject matter.
In addition to creating art, I have also been busy serving as an elected official, representing the community of Shawnigan Lake for the last six years. But despite my responsibilities, I have finally achieved the balance between serving my community and pursuing my passion for art.
I hope that you will enjoy my art expressions as much as I enjoyed creating them. Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit about my art journey.
Nature is not only all that is visible to the eye... it also includes the inner pictures of the soul. -Edvard Munch
